Cruel mother slammed her 1-year-old daughter to the ground: 6-year prison sentence

Osman Vesek and his Moroccan-born wife, Imane Moti, who married in 2023, had a daughter last year. However, the father, Vesek, began to notice frequent bruises on his young daughter's body. Initially accepting his wife's explanation that the child "fell while learning to walk," the father grew suspicious over time due to warnings from those around him and the increasing number of marks on his daughter.

Consequently, Osman Vesek began monitoring the house with a hidden camera for a period. Upon realizing from the footage that his young daughter was being subjected to violence by her mother, the father reported the situation to the authorities with the recordings in his possession. Following the complaint, Imane Moti was taken into custody and was sent to prison after being brought before the court.

6-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE IN THE VERDICT COURT

Imane Moti was tried in the 34th Criminal Court of First Instance for the crimes of "torture against a descendant and simple assault." Although Moti expressed remorse before the judge and requested acquittal, the court decided to sentence the defendant to 6 years in prison for the crime of 'torture.' No reduction was applied to the sentence.

After the hearing, father Osman Vesek stated, “The person who committed the act has received her punishment and was sentenced to 6 years in prison. The events that took place and the crimes committed against the child are clear. If this is the penalty in the eyes of justice, we have left the discretion to the Turkish judiciary. Some of our requests were rejected again. We will have appeals regarding these matters. I believe there was an intent to kill my child in the events that occurred. I want this to be considered in terms of conscience as well.”

The family's lawyer, Onur Can Eroğlu, said, “As a result of the trial, the defendant mother was sentenced to 6 years in prison for the crime of 'torture.' The court did not apply any reductions. However, it must be noted that the court did not investigate some of the issues we requested to be examined from the very beginning. One of the most important of these was the report that needed to be obtained regarding whether the violent acts committed by the defendant were capable of causing death. The court did not apply the sentence from the upper limit. Yet, if a sentence is not given from the upper limit for a person who has subjected her own child to violence multiple times and in a manner capable of causing death, the question of to whom it will be given is a matter left to the discretion of the public. We will appeal this decision.”
