Decision reached regarding teacher accused of making students work at his home in İzmir
A teacher at an educational institution in İzmir, who was alleged to have taken his students to his home during school hours to perform cleaning work, has been released by the prosecutor's office under judicial control conditions.
D.T., a Turkish Language and Literature teacher working at a vocational training center in the Bornova district, was detained following allegations that he took students out of school during class hours and brought them to his own home to perform cleaning tasks. After processing at the police station, D.T. was referred to the courthouse.
Judicial authorities decided to release the suspect teacher under judicial control, imposing a "travel ban" on him.
The incident came to light following allegations that D.T. took students—16-year-old N.K., 15-year-olds E.K. and A.Y., 17-year-olds E.N.K. and S.A., as well as 15-year-old D.N.D.—out of school without the knowledge of their families or the school administration, and made them work at his residence on tasks such as organizing and moving household items.
The investigation revealed that the students left their posts during school hours and that the entire process took place without the families' knowledge. The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated proceedings against teacher D.T. for "human trafficking against children by abusing the influence of a public official" and "supplying substances dangerous to health."
The İzmir Governor's Office announced that D.T. has been suspended from duty and that an administrative investigation is ongoing. While the incident has drawn significant public reaction, educational institutions and authorities have emphasized that the process is being closely monitored.
