Ekrem İmamoğlu back in court
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu is back in court over "corruption" allegations related to his tenure as Mayor of Beylikdüzü.
CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is appearing in court again today as part of the case opened regarding his tenure as Mayor of Beylikdüzü, following his arrest on March 19. The hearing will be held at the Büyükçekmece 10th Criminal Court of First Instance.
The "corruption" accusation against İmamoğlu was filed in relation to a tender dated December 29, 2015. The first hearing was held on June 15, 2023, and the legal process has been ongoing for over two years. In previous hearings, the prosecutor had not yet presented their final opinion, and the file had been sent to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of Büyükçekmece for that purpose.
UP TO 7 YEARS IN PRISON REQUESTED
At the hearing held on July 11, an extension was granted for the presentation of the final opinion due to a change in the prosecutor. At today's hearing, scheduled for 3:00 PM, the trial of İmamoğlu, who faces up to 7 years in prison on charges of "rigging a tender," will continue.
