In the trial concerning the Emek Apartment, which collapsed in Gaziantep following the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes and became a grave for 38 people, 3 detained defendants, including former Nurdağı Mayor Ökkeş Kavak, have been released.

Three detained defendants have been released in the trial regarding the Emek Apartment, which collapsed in the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep and caused the deaths of 38 people. 

In the trial where 9 defendants are being tried for the Emek Apartment in the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep, which collapsed in the February 6 Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes resulting in the loss of 38 lives, 3 detained defendants, including former Nurdağı Mayor Ökkeş Kavak, were released.

Detained defendants Kavak, Aliye Sema Ö., and Mustafa T. connected to the hearing held at the İslahiye High Criminal Court via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS), while other defendants and lawyers were present in the courtroom.

The defendants denied the charges against them and argued that they were innocent.

The court panel decided to release the detained defendants Kavak, Aliye Sema Ö., and Mustafa T., and adjourned the hearing to address missing matters.

A lawsuit had been filed against 9 defendants, 3 of whom were detained, including Nurdağı Mayor Ökkeş Kavak, demanding up to 22 years and 6 months in prison each regarding the Emek Apartment in the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep, which collapsed in the earthquake and claimed 38 lives.
