Former CHP municipal officials appear in court

Former CHP Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç and 24 others are being tried on charges of providing financing to a terrorist organization. The first hearing of the case took place in Istanbul.

Former CHP municipal officials appear in court

Twenty-five people, including former CHP Mayor of Sarıyer Şükrü Genç, former Mayor of Şişli Hayri İnönü, and former Deputy Mayor of Şişli Emir Sarıgül, are being tried on allegations of providing financing to the DHKP-C between 2013 and 2014 through Kazova Tekstil.

The first hearing of the case, held at the Istanbul Courthouse, was conducted by the 13th High Criminal Court in the courtroom of the Istanbul 27th High Criminal Court.

A total of 23 defendants, 12 of whom are in custody, attended the hearing.

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, CHP Trabzon Deputy Sibel Suiçmez, CHP Istanbul Women's Branch Provincial Chair Hatice Selli Dursun, and former CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu were also among those observing the hearing.

Additionally, CHP Erzincan Deputy Mustafa Sarıgül, the father of defendant Emir Sarıgül, was present at the hearing.

Following the identification of the defendants, their defense statements were taken. The detained defendants denied the charges and requested acquittal.

STATEMENT FROM ÖZGÜR ÇELİK

Following the hearing, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik stated on his social media account, "We are following the hearing of our former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, who has been detained since March 14 for allegedly supporting Kazova Tekstil workers and is continuing his cancer treatment, along with his companions. We will continue our struggle with faith, determination, and perseverance until all injustices come to an end."
