Former police officer causes terror in Zonguldak coffeehouse
In the Çaycuma district of Zonguldak, a former police officer entered a coffeehouse with a shotgun, causing the deaths of two people and injuring two others.
In the incident that took place in the village of Coburlar in the Çaycuma district, a former police officer identified as O.Ö. entered a coffeehouse with a shotgun and opened fire indiscriminately. As a result of this attack, coffeehouse owner Kasım Özcan and Aydın Özbakış lost their lives, while Gökhan G. and Hüseyin G. were injured. The injured were transferred to Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Hospital.
Following the attack, O.Ö. fled the scene in his vehicle and later went to the Çaycuma Courthouse to surrender to a police officer he knew. It was learned that O.Ö. had been medically retired from the police force due to psychological issues and was subject to a restraining order for allegedly committing physical violence against his family.
Taken into custody by the gendarmerie, O.Ö. was transferred to the Çaycuma Courthouse following processing and was arrested by the duty magistrate.
