An awareness event organized at the SBÜ Hamidiye Campus to draw attention to violence against women was blocked by university administration and private security. Students reacted to the removal of placards bearing the names of murdered women, stating, "They are not trying to silence violence against women, but those who are trying to make it visible."
An awareness event organized at the University of Health Sciences (SBÜ) Hamidiye Campus to draw attention to violence against women was blocked by the university administration and private security units (ÖGB). In the incident, which drew a reaction from students, attempts were made to forcibly remove placards featuring the names and photographs of murdered women.
Students who were in the campus garden for graduation photos noticed the event and wanted to show their support. However, the university administration and security guards intervened harshly in the event shortly after. It is alleged that private security teams attempted to tear up the visuals prepared by the students and removed them from the area by force.

"THE GOVERNMENT'S SHADOW UNIVERSITY" REACTION
The students emphasized that they have been subjected to pressure from academic staff and the administration due to various peaceful protests they have participated in at the university since March 19, and that this latest intervention was merely an awareness event organized against violence against women.
In the student statement, it was noted: "We are facing a university administration that acts like the shadow of a government that has been afraid of students' struggle, the commemoration of the Gezi Resistance, and the voices of women for two months."
