MeritKing owner Fedlan Kılıçaslan detained in Spain over sexual assault allegations
Fedlan Kılıçaslan, owner of the illegal betting site MeritKing, has been arrested in Barcelona, Spain, on allegations of sexual assault against two women, and official proceedings for his extradition to Turkey have been initiated.
It has been learned that Fedlan Kılıçaslan, who was sought by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was wanted internationally via an Interpol Red Notice and was apprehended in Spain in April 2026. Prosecutor's office officials stated that following Kılıçaslan's arrest, efforts to extradite him to Turkey have been accelerated and the necessary formal requests have been submitted to the relevant authorities. The statement included the following: “Upon being notified by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office that the suspect Fedlan Kılıçaslan was apprehended in Spain, efforts for the suspect's extradition to our country were initiated and an extradition request was prepared. The extradition process is being followed meticulously.”
In the incident reported to have occurred in Barcelona in March 2026, it was determined that Kılıçaslan was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting two women. Following these allegations, official processes regarding Kılıçaslan's extradition are being conducted by the Turkish Ministry of Justice.
Kılıçaslan had been sought via a Red Notice since November 22, 2025, on allegations of operating an illegal betting ring. According to statements from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Kılıçaslan, who is the manager of the betting site MeritKing, was wanted for violating the Law No. 7258 on the Regulation of Betting and Games of Chance in Football and Other Sports Competitions, as well as for money laundering.
During the period the suspect was a fugitive abroad, his movable and immovable assets, company partnership shares, bank accounts, and crypto assets in Turkey were seized. Authorities state that both the process regarding the illegal betting activities and the procedures concerning the extradition requests are being closely monitored.
While Kılıçaslan's judicial process in Spain continues, developments regarding his extradition to Turkey are expected to become clear in the coming days.
