Ministry of Justice rejects Erkan Baş's request to visit Demirtaş

Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Chairman Erkan Baş announced that he had applied to the Ministry of Justice to visit former Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chairman Selahattin Demirtaş, but was not granted permission. Stating that his request to meet with Demirtaş, who is imprisoned in Edirne Prison, was rejected by the Ministry with the response that it was "not deemed appropriate," Baş noted that this decision was conveyed to them without any justification provided.

TİP Chairman Erkan Baş said the following in a post on his social media account: "The petition I submitted to the Ministry of Justice to meet with dear Selahattin Demirtaş, who is held in Edirne Prison, was brushed off with the response that it was 'not deemed appropriate' without any justification being shown. Our request for this response to be provided in writing was also not met with a positive reply."

In his statement, Baş further argued that lawlessness continues to increase through unjustified decisions, stating: "Lawlessness is being compounded by unjustified decisions; moreover, even the recording of this lawlessness is being unlawfully prevented. The Ministry of Justice must put an end to its arbitrary and unjustified practices. No matter what they do, we will continue to fight for freedom and democracy, peace and brotherhood."

Following this application by Erkan Baş, no official statement has been made by the Ministry of Justice regarding the matter.
