New judicial order for serious crimes
The government is implementing a critical regulation to accelerate judicial processes. For serious crimes such as intentional homicide, drug trafficking, and sexual abuse, where a sentence of more than 5 years is requested, files will no longer go to regional courts of appeal but will be sent directly to the Court of Cassation.
An important change is being made to accelerate judicial processes. Within the scope of the Judicial Reform Strategy Document announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, new regulations will be implemented to reduce the workload in courts and speed up decision-making processes.
CASES TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE COURT OF CASSATION
In this context, for serious crimes such as intentional homicide, drug trafficking, crimes against children, sexual abuse, aggravated fraud, and aggravated theft, cases where a prison sentence of more than 5 years is requested will not be sent to regional courts of appeal. These files will be moved directly to the Court of Cassation to accelerate the appeal process.
Furthermore, the goal is for hearings not to be postponed for more than two months, for appellate reviews to be completed in a maximum of six months, and for the Court of Cassation process to be concluded within six months at the latest. The new mechanism, created to conduct trials more quickly and effectively, is expected to significantly change the functioning of the courts.
