New regulation from the Ministry of Justice for e-Hearings
The scope of the e-Hearing system is being expanded with a new regulation prepared by the Ministry of Justice. The system, which is also planned to be implemented in regional courts of justice, will pave the way for witnesses, expert witnesses, and parties to be heard online.
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that the scope of the e-Hearing system will be expanded as part of the digital transformation in justice services. With the work carried out by the Ministry, it is planned that the application will be used in more cases and procedural operations.
Within the scope of the regulation to be made, the e-Hearing application will not be limited to courts of first instance. It is envisaged that the system will also be put into operation in Regional Courts of Justice.
NEW PROCEDURAL OPERATIONS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE SYSTEM
According to the study, in addition to preliminary examination hearings, the way will be opened for procedures such as letters rogatory, taking oaths, interrogation, and hearing of parties to be conducted through the e-Hearing system.
Furthermore, with the software developments to be made, it is planned that not only lawyers but also other parties to the proceedings, such as plaintiffs, defendants, expert witnesses, witnesses, and specialists, can be heard through the system.
JUDGES WILL BE ABLE TO DECIDE EX OFFICIO
Within the scope of the new regulation, it is also being evaluated that judges may decide on the e-Hearing method ex officio in cases they deem necessary. With these steps, the Ministry aims to provide ease of access and faster execution of procedures in judicial processes.
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek had previously stated in a statement that technological opportunities and artificial intelligence-supported applications would be used more in justice services. Gürlek had used the expression, "We will continue to develop digital opportunities so that our lawyers can devote their energy to their professional activities instead of traveling to and from the courthouse."
