Release decision in abuse case involving Turkish Parliament interns

A new development has occurred in the case heard at the Ankara 57th Criminal Court of First Instance, which was initiated following allegations of sexual abuse against intern students at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) restaurant. The four individuals who were being tried while in custody were released by the court with a travel ban imposed. Thus, all of the five defendants who were in custody have been released under judicial control measures.

The reason cited for the release of the defendants was that there was no longer a need for their continued detention and that they would be placed under social supervision through judicial control. The court ruled that the defendants' participation in the trial could be ensured through judicial control.
