Social media influencer who shared obscene content arrested in Marmaris

Following numerous complaints from citizens received by the Marmaris District Police Department, the Marmaris Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was notified. Acting on the instructions of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office at the conclusion of the investigation, teams from the Marmaris District Police Department's Public Security Bureau detained the suspect at their residence in the Siteler neighborhood yesterday evening. After completing procedures at the police station, B.K. was referred to the courthouse today and was arrested by the Marmaris Criminal Court of Peace on charges of "mediating the dissemination of obscene publications" and sent to the Muğla E-Type Closed Prison.

In their statement to the court, B.K. denied the accusations, claiming that the videos were intended for tourism promotion. Stating that they wanted to showcase the natural beauty of the regions where they filmed, the suspect claimed that some scenes in the videos were automatically turned into cover images by the internet streaming platform's algorithms, stating, "My goal was to promote the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. I did not have criminal intent in the videos. YouTube may be selecting the cover photos automatically. Although I had received complaints about this content before, my channel was still active."

"CONTENT IS ALSO ACCESSIBLE TO CHILDREN"

According to the information obtained, the court's decision emphasized that the close-up images in the videos were published on social media platforms accessible to children, were of a nature that violated personal privacy, and could pose a risk to public safety. The arrest decision was made taking into account the nature of the crime, the current state of evidence, and the suspect's flight risk. B.K. was transferred to the Muğla closed prison to be held in custody pending trial.
