Stabbed in Kadıköy: Mattia Ahmet case adjourned to July 17

The third hearing of the case regarding the fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi in Kadıköy was held today.

Following the call made yesterday by the case lawyer Rezan Epözdemir, "The trial regarding the murder of our dear child Ahmet Minguzzi will be held tomorrow at 10:00 at the Istanbul Anatolian 2nd Juvenile High Criminal Court. We invite everyone to show solidarity and stand up for Ahmet," many citizens gathered in front of the courthouse to observe the trial.

FROM THE HEARING

Minguzzi's mother, Yasemin Minguzzi, attended the hearing, where lawyers and relatives of the parties were admitted to the courtroom, wearing a t-shirt printed with her son's photograph.

Slogans of 'Justice for Mattia Ahmet' were chanted in the courthouse corridors. CHP Deputy Chairperson Aylin Nazlı Aka also went to the courthouse to observe the hearing.

Two defendants and seven witnesses are to be heard in the trial. The two detained defendants are being tried with a request for up to 24 years in prison each. Upon the request of the Minguzzi family's lawyer, Epözdemir, it was decided to record the hearing via SEGBİS; however, it was learned that recording could not be performed due to a technical issue in UYAP.

ADJOURNED TO JULY 17

According to journalist Emrullah Erdinç, following the family lawyers' request for the recusal of the judge, the panel decided not to continue with the case.

The hearing was adjourned to July 17 at 10:00.

The detention of the two defendants will continue.
