Statement from Minister Tunç on May 1: 65 people detained, 38 arrested

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that within the scope of the investigation launched regarding those who attacked police during the May 1 Labor and Solidarity Day demonstrations, 38 out of 65 detained suspects have been arrested, while judicial control measures have been imposed on 27 others.

In a statement on his social media account, Minister Tunç recalled that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched a judicial investigation into those who attacked police officers during the intervention against groups that wanted to march to Taksim Square, despite it being previously announced that the area was closed.

Sharing the information that 65 suspects were detained within the scope of the investigation, Tunç stated, "38 suspects have been arrested for 'Opposition to the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations,' 'Making Propaganda for a Terrorist Organization,' and 'Resisting a Public Official.' Judicial control decisions have been issued for 27 suspects."

Tunç added, "Events aimed at disrupting the peace of our country and the unity and solidarity of our nation will never achieve their goal."
