Tension in CHP moves to the judiciary: Adnan Beker files criminal complaint against Kılıçdaroğlu
CHP MP Adnan Beker has filed a criminal complaint against former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu over allegations of "gathering militants" and "causing incidents at the party headquarters." Beker argued that Kılıçdaroğlu's statements were unlawful.
The disputes within the CHP following the 38th Ordinary Congress have been moved to the judiciary. In the application submitted to the Ankara Duty Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, MP Adnan Beker stated that former chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had directed false accusations at him in his public statements, and requested that criminal proceedings be initiated for "imputing an unlawful act to a person while knowing that they did not commit it."
In the petition prepared by Beker's lawyer, it was stated that Kılıçdaroğlu's claims that Beker brought a group of militants to the party headquarters and ordered them to throw stones or initiate violent acts were not based on any concrete evidence. The lawyer noted that Beker had gone to the headquarters on the day of the incident in question with only two of his advisors.
The application further emphasized that "targeting a person for a crime they know they did not commit is contrary to the Turkish Penal Code" and requested that the process be carried out legally.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Following the announcement of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice's decision regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, there was activity around the CHP Headquarters on May 24. During the tension that began in the morning hours, a scuffle broke out between a group supporting Kılıçdaroğlu and those opposing the police's entry into the building.
While tensions rose from time to time between the parties due to police intervention, the events continued throughout the day. Following these developments, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu stated on May 27, 2026, "What are Adnan Beker's militants doing there? Are they there to throw stones or to cause trouble?"
