TKP takes demonstration ban imposed before NATO summit in Ankara to court

The Ankara Governor's Office has imposed restrictions on meetings and protest marches throughout the city from midnight on June 28 until 23:59 on July 10, due to the NATO Summit to be held in the capital on July 7-8. This decision has directly affected mass actions planned in the capital.

A swift response to the restriction decision came from the Communist Party of Turkey. The TKP announced that it has filed a lawsuit against the decision, requesting a stay of execution and its cancellation. In the petition submitted to the court, party lawyers argued that the Governor's Office decision is unlawful on 26 counts.

It had been reported that the TKP aimed to hold a rally against NATO at Tandoğan Square in Ankara on July 5. However, the Governor's Office ban has made the fate of the event on the specified date uncertain.

SHARP REACTION TO THE BAN DECISION

In a written statement issued by the party, it was stated: "The Ankara Governor's Office has signed off on a shameful 13-day ban in the city regarding the NATO summit to be held on July 7-8. Our party lawyers have filed a lawsuit today requesting a stay of execution and cancellation against this decision, which envisions banning anti-NATO actions and events in the capital just because the leaders of NATO, the world's largest terrorist organization, will come to Ankara. The owners of this country are neither NATO representatives nor their collaborators. On this occasion, we once again call on all patriots, republicans, and the honorable people of our country to raise the struggle against imperialism together."

In another recent statement, the TKP emphasized that it has called on all citizens to protest NATO in Ankara and to "stand up against this imperialist banditry with tens of thousands of people." The party underlined that the rally it will organize is not just its own organization, but will be a meeting of "all the honorable citizens of our country and those who are sincerely fighting against imperialism."
