Will Abidin Dino be able to reunite with his great love in Aşiyan?

Hürriyet columnist İhsan Yılmaz explained the process of potentially relocating Güzin Dino's grave from Paris—where the lease on the plot was for 10 years and expired a year ago—to be placed atop Abidin Dino's grave in Aşiyan.

"Journalist Ahmet Tek sent an email to me regarding the article titled 'An Unnamed Grave in Paris,' which was published on the Haber Hürriyeti website on June 24.

He wrote his article based on a social media post by Dr. Mehmet Oltan, who lives in Zurich, Switzerland.

Oltan, who met Abidin Dino during his final period of cancer treatment at the hospital where he came for check-ups, wanted to visit Güzin Dino's grave when he visited Paris years later.

However, he could not find the grave at the address he was given. After persistent searching, he found the plot, but there was neither an inscription nor a sign indicating it belonged to Güzin Dino.

Authorities stated that the grave plot had been leased for 10 years and that the date had expired a year ago, explaining that the standard procedure would be to exhume the remains and either move them elsewhere or destroy them.

If none of the family or heirs renew the lease, the remains must be removed and the plot vacated.

Mehmet Oltan made attempts to reach Dino's heirs to have the lease extended and a new headstone made, or to have the remains relocated to Aşiyan next to Abidin Dino."

THE İLERİ FAMILY DID NOT CONSENT

Güzin Dino was a member of the PEN Women Writers Association of Turkey. PEN Turkey President, journalist and author Zeynep Oral, wrote an article in her column in Cumhuriyet yesterday titled 'Saving Güzin Dino's Grave...' and explained the developments on this issue.

And by asking that most important question that comes to mind, she shared the answer as to why Güzin Dino was not buried next to her great love, Abidin Dino, in Aşiyan Cemetery when she passed away.

The grave plot of Abidin Dino in Aşiyan belongs to the family of Rasih Nuri İleri, one of the important figures of the Turkish communist movement, and his heirs did not want Güzin Dino to be buried there.

Zeynep Oral issued a call, saying, "Come on, let the mobilization continue. Let's bring the two lovers together."

I hope that the heirs of Rasih Nuri İleri, in particular, will respond to this call, and even if a new grave is not possible, Güzin Dino's remains can at least be buried atop Abidin Dino's grave.

In an interview she gave to Arzu Çakır Morin of Hürriyet in Paris, while describing her life with her husband—to whom Nâzım Hikmet had said in his poem, "Can you paint the picture of happiness, Abidin?"—Güzin Dino answered the question, "Did your husband really paint the picture of happiness?" by saying, "I don't know about that, but we were very happy, he lived happily."

If we can bring them together, that grave will live on forever as a symbol of this great and happy love.

Thus, the picture of loyalty will be completed."
