Avoid foods that disrupt peace in the office environment

Workplaces are like our second homes, as they are where we spend a large part of our day. However, some foods consumed here can create unrest among colleagues. Australian etiquette and protocol expert Elizabeth Soos has pointed out the foods that should be avoided in an office environment.

Soos emphasizes that foods containing fish, eggs, garlic-heavy dishes, and pungent vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower should not be consumed in the office. The odors emitted by these foods are a frequent subject of complaints among employees.

SUGGESTION TO CONSUME OUTSIDE THE OFFICE

Soos states that such foods do not need to be completely banned, but that it would be more appropriate to consume them outside the office or in common break areas: 'If you absolutely must eat such smelly or noisy foods, consume them outside the building or in common break areas.'

She also issues a warning to those who make a habit of eating at their desks: 'The spread of hot food odors throughout the entire office can be disturbing for some employees. It should not be forgotten that the office is still a workspace and not everyone is on a lunch break at the same time.'

NOISY FOODS ALSO DISTRACT

In addition to odors, Soos notes that noisy foods also cause discomfort, stating that crunchy vegetables, crackers, slurping sounds while drinking soup, and the rustling of packaging can distract employees: 'Smacking your lips while eating, opening packages noisily, or chewing loudly can irritate those around you.'

Avoiding such foods to maintain peace in the office environment can create a more harmonious working atmosphere with colleagues.
