Bought a village for 4 million, fell into financial distress

Ben and Nathan Pearson, a couple from England, purchased an unused village in the Sainte Segros region of France for 69 thousand pounds (approximately 4 million TL), planning to build a life there. The village, which includes a large farmhouse, a total of five outbuildings, and two hectares of vast land, was the couple's dream. However, after ten months of renovation work, their 100 thousand pound budget was completely exhausted.

In a statement, it was noted that the project was more expensive than planned and that the primary expenses were incurred for infrastructure, electrical wiring, and the installation of clean water and septic systems. Ben Pearson, a former engineer, emphasized that they need an additional 100 to 150 thousand pounds in funding to complete the remaining work.

The couple faced significant challenges throughout the renovation process. They spent the first four months of the construction period living in a caravan they set up in a barn in the village, trying to meet their basic living needs. Despite all their efforts, they have only been able to complete one bedroom and one living room so far, and the kitchen is expected to be ready for use by summer.

Due to costs exceeding estimates and the inability to find new funds, the future of the project remains uncertain for now. Having transferred all their savings from England into this project, Ben and Nathan Pearson continue to search for alternative sources to make the village habitable as intended.
