Famous from The Lord of the Rings series: Hobbits may be shorter than we thought
A study has revealed that the archaic human species "Homo floresiensis," known globally as "Hobbits" due to their small size, may be even shorter than previously estimated.
According to a report in Science Daily, an international team of archaeologists examined a limb bone belonging to this mysterious human species, believed to have lived on the island of Flores in eastern Indonesia, where the first fossils were discovered in 2003.
Experts examining the approximately 700,000-year-old fossil bone determined that the "Hobbit" species, previously thought to be about 100 centimeters tall, was actually 6 centimeters shorter.
With this discovery, experts announced that they have found the "shortest upper arm bone" belonging to any human species discovered to date.

Adam Brumm, from Griffith University in Australia, stated, "Our discovery confirms the thesis that the ancestors of this rare species were much shorter."
In light of the research, the archaic human species "Homo floresiensis," known for its small brain and small body, became widely known through J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings series.
The results of the research were published in the journal Nature Communications.
