Journalist İsmail Saymaz under house arrest with an electronic tag! What did he do during the earthquake?
During the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul, those under house arrest called the Ministry of Justice in a panic. Journalist İsmail Saymaz shared his experience regarding the electronic monitoring system.
Following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Istanbul on April 23, citizens benefiting from the electronic monitoring system under the Probation Law reported to Ministry of Justice officials that they had left their residences.
Citizens serving house arrest sentences with electronic tags rushed out into the street. One of those who rushed out was journalist İsmail Saymaz, who is under house arrest as part of the Gezi Park investigation. Nefes newspaper columnist Deniz Zeyrek wrote about what Saymaz did during the earthquake with the following words;
"I spoke on the phone with my dear colleague İsmail Saymaz last Thursday. As you know, there was a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul on Wednesday, April 23, and people rushed out into the streets. İsmail had an electronic tag on his ankle, and I wondered what he did during the earthquake.
'Brother, we rushed out in front of the building, but just in case, I called the center and asked about the situation. They told me it was an understandable situation due to the earthquake,' he said."
