Meteorology issues 'last-minute' alert: Snow removal efforts begin in Istanbul

Following days of warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology and the Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), the expected snowfall in Istanbul began as of midnight.

The snowfall, which was particularly effective in higher areas, created a visual spectacle at locations such as Çamlıca Hill. The snowfall is expected to continue intermittently.

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE ACROSS TURKEY?

According to the Meteorology's forecasts, precipitation is expected in the east of the Marmara region, the Eastern Mediterranean, Central Anatolia (except Eskişehir), the Western and Central Black Sea, the coasts of the Eastern Black Sea, the west of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia, as well as Afyonkarahisar, Diyarbakır, Mardin, the eastern parts of Çanakkale, Tekirdağ, Kırklareli, and the western and eastern coasts of Antalya.

Precipitation will generally be in the form of rain, but sleet and snow will be seen in inland regions and higher elevations.

While rain will be effective on the Mediterranean coasts, rain is also expected, especially on the Central and Eastern Black Sea coasts and in the surroundings of Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, and Mardin.

BEWARE OF FROST, ICING, AND AVALANCHE DANGER

Meteorology reported that intense icing and frost events will occur in the inner and eastern regions.

While haze and local fog are also expected to be effective, attention was drawn to the danger of avalanches in the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and on the high and steep slopes of Eastern Anatolia.
