Host search for the Oscars: Jimmy Kimmel turns down offer, Oscars left without a host

It has been announced that famous comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the Oscar Awards in 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024, will not be hosting the 2025 Oscar ceremony. It was learned that despite receiving an offer for next year's ceremony, Kimmel will not be taking on the role.

In a podcast appearance, Kimmel stated that he decided not to accept the role this year, noting that hosting the Oscar ceremony for a third consecutive time would be too much. "Last year was just a lot," Kimmel said. "You just put everything off until after the Oscars. And then you have to do everything you promised to do after the Oscars. I did it two years, it went well. I did it two more years, it went well. I thought about taking a break," he said.

Kimmel stated that it is difficult to prepare for the Oscar ceremony while also filming his late-night talk show, adding, "I'm not good at balancing. I'm really not. That's not one of my strengths."

'DOING THIS THREE YEARS IN A ROW IS A LOT'

Expressing that preparing for the Oscars and the process itself affects his own late-night program, Kimmel added:

"All of our writers on the show work on the Oscars, which distracts them. It's fun to do and it feels good when things go well, but for me, doing this three years in a row was a lot."

Kimmel's wife, Molly McNearney, served as the executive producer for the 2023 and 2024 Oscars. Kimmel noted that there are several other people who could host the Oscar ceremony, but that most would not want to take on the task. It was also learned that comedian and actor John Mulaney has declined to host the 2025 Oscar ceremony.

The 2025 Oscar nominees will be announced on January 17, 2025, and the winners will receive their awards at a ceremony to be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2, 2025.
