Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi sentenced to death
The Isfahan Revolutionary Court has sentenced Iranian rap artist Toomaj Salehi to death on charges of "spreading corruption on earth" during the nationwide protests that began following the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022.
32-year-old Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi, who was arrested during the nationwide protests that erupted in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022, has been sentenced to death.
Salehi's lawyer, Amir Raisian, told the Iranian press that the Isfahan Revolutionary Court had issued a death sentence against Salehi on charges of "spreading corruption on earth."
VERDICT IGNORED
Stating that the Isfahan Revolutionary Court did not comply with the previous ruling issued by the Supreme Court, Raisian said, "In an unprecedented move, the Revolutionary Court ignored the Supreme Court's ruling regarding Salehi and sentenced him to death."
Accused of organizing and participating in the protests that began nationwide following the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022, Salehi was detained by security forces while attempting to flee the country.
A previous death sentence issued against him for actions that encouraged "violence" and "conflict" during the protests had been overturned by the Supreme Court and commuted to a prison sentence.
