Is the spirit of solidarity in Turkish society declining?

According to research, 51.2 percent of Turks believe that the spirit of solidarity in society is declining. Women are more pessimistic than men, with 58.9 percent stating that the culture of solidarity is diminishing.

Is the spirit of solidarity in Turkish society declining?

According to the results of research conducted on the culture of sharing, mutual aid, and solidarity in Turkish society, which involved 2,094 participants across Turkey, 51.2 percent of the public believes that the spirit of solidarity in Turkish society is declining. Women exhibit a more pessimistic attitude than men, with 58.9 percent stating that the culture of solidarity is decreasing.

This rate was determined to be 43.3 percent among men. 57.3 percent of participants believe that cultural values in Turkish society are changing in a negative direction. The rates of those who stated that the culture of solidarity is increasing were observed as 32.2 percent in 2021, 28.2 percent in 2022, and 31.3 percent in 2023. The rate of those who expressed that no change has occurred was determined to be 13.6 percent in 2021, 21.1 percent in 2022, and finally 17.5 percent in 2023.

THE AGE GROUP THAT MOST BELIEVES IT HAS DECLINED IS 55 AND OVER

According to gender distribution, while 58.9 percent of women state that the culture of solidarity is declining, only 43.3 percent of men agree with this idea. The rates of women and men who state that the culture of solidarity is increasing show similarities. The age group that most believes the culture of solidarity in Turkish society is declining is individuals aged 55 and over, at 66.3 percent.

The group that most highly states that the culture of solidarity is increasing is young people in the 18-34 age range, at 38.4 percent. The rate of those who believe that change has occurred in Turkish society in terms of cultural values is 57.3 percent. Within this group, the rate of those who think the change is positive is 28.2 percent, while the rate of those who think no change has occurred is 14.6 percent.
