It has been determined that the person who stepped out of their vehicle and ended their life on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge in Istanbul yesterday around 14:00 was businessman İlhan Arık.
In a program he previously attended, Arık had recounted that his father was found dead at home, that he lost his three-month-old son, and that he was pulled alive from the rubble in the 1999 earthquake.
Speaking on a Haberler.com broadcast last year, Arık had used the following expressions regarding the difficulties he experienced:
Arık used the following expressions.
"My father was found dead at home. I grew up an orphan from a young age. I never knew my father; I always felt the absence of my father. I wore other people's clothes. I lost my son when he was 3 months old due to hospital negligence. I wanted a son so much. I never experienced a father's love, I wanted my son to experience it, but it didn't happen. I cried by the cradle for days. I was always all alone; that is how I fought my struggle. I have two daughters now. May God not let anyone experience the pain of losing a child. In the '99 earthquake, we were pulled from under the rubble in Sakarya, we lived in a tent for 3 months. At the age of 14, I pulled a lifeless body out from the rubble."
