Journalist Togay Bayatlı passes away: Condolence messages from the Journalists Association of Turkey and the TFF
Togay Bayatlı, a member of the Journalists Association of Turkey, former president of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and the Sports Writers Association of Turkey, recipient of the 2009 Burhan Felek Press Service Award and holder of a Permanent Press Card, has passed away at the age of 85.
Bayatlı, who was the first Turkish sports figure to serve at an international level by assuming the presidency of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), had been receiving treatment for an illness for some time.
The Journalists Association of Turkey also stated in a condolence message, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our member Togay Bayatlı, who served our profession successfully in the field of sports for many years. We extend our condolences to our colleague's family and our press community."
CONDOLENCE MESSAGE FROM THE FOOTBALL FEDERATION
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) used the following expressions in its condolence message:
"We have learned with deep sorrow of the passing of Togay Bayatlı, one of the doyens of the Turkish sports press and former president of the Turkish National Olympic Committee (TMOK), the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), and the Sports Writers Association of Turkey (TSYD).
Togay Bayatlı, who wrote columns for Milliyet and Hürriyet newspapers for many years, made very significant contributions to Turkish sports and the sports press as an administrator, writer, and commentator.
We wish God's mercy upon the late Togay Bayatlı; we extend our condolences to his family, his loved ones, and the sports and press communities."
WHO IS TOGAY BAYATLI?
Born in 1938 in the Bor district of Niğde, Bayatlı graduated from the Istanbul University Faculty of Economics. Starting his career in 1961 as a sports writer at Milliyet newspaper, Bayatlı worked as a sports writer for various newspapers.
Togay Bayatlı served as the Secretary General of the Turkish National Olympic Committee, President of the Sports Writers Association of Turkey, and President of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS). Bayatlı, who was a recipient of the French Ministry of Sports Gold Medal and the FIFA 100th Anniversary Medal of Honor, was a father of two.
