Kandilli Observatory, which conducts earthquake research, also found to be at risk
A 'risky structure' decision has been made for the buildings on the campus of Boğaziçi University's Kandilli Observatory, which conducts earthquake research. Zoning regulations will be implemented to renovate the risky structures.
In Üsküdar, Istanbul, the zoning plan prepared for the area where the Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory campus is located has been suspended for objections.
It was reported that these buildings have a 'risky structure' report. It was stated that the zoning regulation is being made primarily to renovate the risky structures and to allow for construction in accordance with regulations.
INCONSISTENCIES RESOLVED
According to the report by Özlem Güvemli in Sözcü; the planning area covers approximately 100 thousand square meters. With the plan change, geometric adjustments were made regarding the physical boundaries of the buildings on campus.
Inconsistencies between the area designated as a park and road in the current zoning plan and the existing built-up and active roads and park areas were resolved.
The roads within the campus were reorganized. The “Official Institution Area-Observatory” function was changed to “Higher Education Facility Area (Observatory)” in accordance with its current use.
HEIGHT LIMITED TO 5 FLOORS
Construction conditions will be determined according to the preliminary project to be approved by the Regional Commission for the Protection of Natural Assets. The height was limited to 5 floors.
49 thousand square meters were allocated for the higher education area, 3 thousand 466 square meters for the park, 47 thousand square meters for the technology development zone, and 9 thousand square meters for roads.
