Tülay Özer, known for unforgettable songs such as 'Büklüm Büklüm' and 'İkimiz Bir Fidanız', has passed away.
Tülay Özer, one of the important names in Turkish music and an unforgettable artist of the 1970s, has passed away at the age of 79. Özer, who had been struggling with health problems for a long time, was receiving dialysis treatment due to kidney failure.
MUSIC PRODUCER ANNOUNCED THE NEWS
The news of Tülay Özer's death was shared by music producer Hakan Eren on his social media account. In an emotional message, Eren said, "Receiving bad news in the morning... We have lost my dear sister Tülay Özer. May she rest in peace. We did so many concerts together, so many memories left behind."
SHE WAS THE OLDER SISTER OF ZERRIN ÖZER
Tülay Özer, who held an important place in the music world, was also the older sister of the famous singer Zerrin Özer. Making a rapid entry into her music career in the 1970s, Özer became etched in memories with hit songs such as "Büklüm Büklüm," "İkimiz Bir Fidanız," "Kalbime Sana Vermiştim," and "Niye Çattın Kaşlarını."
WHO IS TÜLAY ÖZER?
Tülay Özer was born in the Kemaliye district of Erzincan as the eldest of four sisters named Nilgün, Songül, and Zerrin Özer. The artist, whose primary profession was accounting, began her professional music career in 1972. She released her first 45-rpm record in 1974 titled "Gel Artık - Niye Çattın Kaşlarını." The year 1975 became the artist's breakthrough year, and she made a rapid ascent with the 45-rpm record "İkimiz Bir Fidanız - Son Ümit," released under the Kent Plak label at the beginning of that same year.
She received a Golden Record Award for this success at the İzmir Fair, where she first took the stage. Leaving her mark on 1976 with the 45-rpm record "Deli Etme Beni Aşk - Neden Ayrıldık," Tülay Özer primarily reinterpreted songs in this style, arranged by Esin Engin and composed by songwriters such as Hakkı Bulut and Bora Ayanoğlu. At the end of 1978, she topped the record charts with the single "Büklüm Büklüm," a Sezen Aksu composition. As the 1980s began, while Tülay's fame lost its former glory, her sister Zerrin Özer was experiencing a rapid rise in her own music career.
Tülay Özer, who provided every kind of support for her sister to enter the music market, did not enter into competition with her sister and continued this support. The artist, who married and became a mother to a son named Hakan in 1985, released a few more albums in the late 80s and 90s, but they did not make a significant impact. Her final work was the track "Kolay Vazgeçmeyi Öğrendim," which she sang in a duet with Kıraç on the pop tribute album titled "Her Devrin Devleri," produced under the supervision of her sister Zerrin Özer in 2010.
