Most popular baby names for 2025 announced

The most popular names given to babies by families in Turkey throughout 2025 have been announced. The report, prepared based on official population data, shared details regarding the names that stood out for both boys and girls, as well as birth statistics.

Alparslan took the top spot for baby boys in 2025. It was followed by Göktuğ and Metehan. Among girls, Alya ranked first, followed closely by Defne and Gökçe. According to the details, the name Alparslan was given to 7,527 newborn boys, Göktuğ to 6,036, and Metehan to 5,393. For baby girls, the name Alya was used 8,751 times, Defne 7,731 times, and Gökçe 7,603 times.

When age groups are examined, the most common names for boys between the ages of 0-17 are Yusuf, Mustafa, and Ömer. Among girls, Zeynep, Elif, and Ecrin are among the prominent names.

SIGNIFICANT FIGURES IN BIRTHS

Birth statistics from the previous year (2024) are also attracting public interest. A total of 937 thousand 559 live births were recorded. Of these babies, 481 thousand 825 were born as boys and 455 thousand 734 as girls. Furthermore, 96.7 percent of the babies born were single births, while 3.2 percent were twins, and 0.1 percent were triplets or higher-order multiple births.

In the field of health, an increase in access to maternity services was noted. While the rate of hospital births was 91.6 percent in 2010, this rate rose to 99.4 percent in 2024. Additionally, while the pentavalent vaccine (DPT+IPV+Hib) administration rate was 98.8 percent in 2023, this rate fell to 96 percent in 2024.
