New regulation for wooden buildings! Safer and more durable structures

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has prepared the Regulation on the Design, Calculation and Construction Principles of Wooden Buildings, which has been published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.

According to the report in T24, the regulation governs the procedures and principles regarding the use of load-bearing wooden structural elements and structural systems.

Within the scope of the regulation:

Building types where load-bearing wooden structural elements and different structural systems are used together are included.

Methods, rules, and conditions necessary to ensure safety in the design and construction of structures have been established.

The use of materials in compliance with the Construction Products Regulation and relevant criteria has been made mandatory.

In areas where there are insufficient provisions, Turkish standards, European standards, and internationally valid standards will be taken as a basis.

The fundamental principles of structural design, material properties, earthquake calculations, durability, fire safety, and insulation principles have been determined.

The rules of the Turkey Building Earthquake Code will also be taken into account in the design of wooden load-bearing structures in earthquake zones.

The use of materials with specified quality, properties, and certifications will be mandatory in wooden buildings.

The provisions of the Regulation on the Protection of Buildings from Fire will also be complied with for fire-resistant design.

Chimneys and utility pipes will not be placed on exterior walls, but insulation measures will be taken where necessary.

With the regulation entering into force on January 1, 2025, it will be ensured that the materials and designs used in wooden buildings are safer and more durable.
