A 4-year-old cat named Shiraz developed obesity as a result of irregular feeding and inactivity. The cat, which was adopted by its owner Beyza Dikkatli when it was 2.5 months old and named Shiraz, began to gain excessive weight following a spaying operation. Shiraz's weight reached 9 kilograms in a short time.

Dikkatli took Shiraz to a veterinary physical therapy and rehabilitation center due to its excess weight. Shiraz has been undergoing treatment for 2 months under the supervision of veterinarian Bahri Terzi and veterinary technician Yağmur Denli. Exercised daily on a treadmill and with a pilates ball, Shiraz has also lost 2 kilograms in a short time by swimming in a pool.

In addition to the exercises, a diet is also being applied to Shiraz. However, Shiraz still needs to lose 3 kilograms, and the therapy program is ongoing.

There is another animal at the same center experiencing obesity issues. Nuray Özünalan's King Charles spaniel, Rüzgar, reached 19 kilograms and is trying to get rid of 5 kilograms of excess weight.

Veterinary technician and physiotherapist Yağmur Denli made statements regarding the obesity problem in animals, stating that the treatment process begins with health checks for the animals and is determined according to the cause of the treatment to be applied. Emphasizing that diet is as important as exercise, Denli noted that animals have an adjustment period and begin to enjoy the exercise over time.

Denli stated that rapid weight loss can lead to health problems and that caution should be exercised for this reason.

Veterinarian Bahri Terzi also emphasized that obesity is frequently seen in animals and that owners should be careful about this issue. Touching on the importance of providing measured portions of food for a healthy life, Terzi stated that obesity can seriously affect the health of animals.

Finally, Terzi expressed that obesity in pets is common in Turkey and that awareness needs to be raised on this subject.
