The dark side of social media: Children face danger
It has been revealed that popular social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram use AI-powered algorithms to keep users on their apps for longer periods.
A report by the UK-based broadcaster BBC examined how social media sites are affecting the brains of children and young people.
The report included insights from former employees of social networking apps and experts in internet safety. According to the report, popular companies such as TikTok or Instagram use algorithms driven by artificial intelligence to keep users on their platforms for as long as possible.
These algorithms are supposed to prevent risky videos from appearing to users. However, according to the report, the circulation of pornographic videos, as well as content depicting domestic abuse, animal cruelty, or violence against women, cannot be prevented. Moreover, such dangerous content even appears before 13-year-old children. Children are unable to get the violent images they see out of their minds throughout the day.
