Veil of secrecy lifted on Bruce Lee's death: The truth about epilepsy revealed

The death of Bruce Lee, who left his mark on cinema history, in 1973 has been the source of a mystery debated for years. In a documentary prepared by the state television in Hong Kong, previously unknown details regarding Lee's death were presented to the public.

The cause of death, previously announced as acute cerebral edema, has been updated to an epileptic seizure in light of new information.

WHAT THE DOCUMENTARY REVEALED

According to what was reported on the TVB channel's "Ctrl+F The Truth" program, it was stated that the cause of Bruce Lee's death had been hidden from the public. The truth about epilepsy was not disclosed for years so that the legendary hero image of the San Francisco-born, Hong Kong-origin star would not be damaged.

On July 20, 1973, Lee had retired to rest after taking a painkiller for a headache at the home of his girlfriend, Betty Ting, and had lost consciousness shortly thereafter. With the arrival of producer Raymond Chow at the house, the seriousness of the situation was understood, and Lee was rushed to the hospital. However, despite medical interventions, he could not be saved.

BETTY TING WAS CRITICIZED FOR YEARS

After the actor's death, when his relationship with Betty Ting was announced to the public, Ting was subjected to intense pressure and accusations. Although painkiller medication was brought up as the cause of death at the time, these claims lost their validity over time.

According to Wai-ming Poon, one of the forensic experts of the period, it is highlighted that Bruce Lee had suffered a cramp and fainting spell on a film set two months before his death, and that his health records in the US indicated a muscle spasm disorder. It is stated that SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy), which entered medical literature in the 1990s, could be the actual cause of Lee's passing.

PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL BURDENS ARE FACTORS

Experts emphasize that Bruce Lee living under intense physical fatigue and high stress was a trigger for epileptic seizures. It is thought that the pressures regarding both his career and his image may have aggravated his health problems.
