Venomous camel spider reappears in Elazığ
With rising temperatures in Elazığ, the venomous and carnivorous camel spider has been spotted again. This spider species draws attention with both its size and the danger it poses.
A resident living in the Güneykent neighborhood of Elazığ encountered an unusual spider near their home as the weather has warmed up in recent days. It was understood that the spider, which was recorded with a mobile phone camera, was a camel spider, known colloquially as the "meat-eating spider."
The camel spider is known for its size, which can reach up to 13 centimeters, and its ability to jump up to one meter. This species, which poses a risk to human health due to its venomous nature, feeds primarily on creatures such as scorpions and lizards. Experts point out that the venom of the camel spider can be fatal to humans.
Local residents state that such harmful animals have begun to be seen more frequently as the weather warms up. Authorities advise citizens to be careful when they encounter such spiders and to avoid contact if possible.
