Aydilge criticizes 'Cıstak' song as 'food poisoning': Turkey's most-streamed song

According to Spotify's '2024 Wrapped' results, Semicenk was the most-streamed artist in Turkey, while the most-streamed track was 'Cıstak,' a collaboration by Batuflex, Narco, and Era7capone. The song was criticized by singer Aydilge for both its lyrics and its music video.

Sharing on her social media account, Aydilge stated, "These songs, in which the female body is degraded and money, brands, and smoking things are portrayed as the most stylish and cool things, are being listened to a lot."

Aydilge wrote the following on her social media account:

"Turkey's most-streamed song this year has been 'Cıstak.' This song has captured hearts with lyrics like, ''I bought a brand, I don't look at the bill, Her name is Katarina, I put it right in between,'' and phrases like, ''I met her in Bebek, her name is Natasha, I said, 'Don't drag it out baby, lie down,''' :)

Yes, these songs, in which the female body is degraded and money, brands, and smoking things are portrayed as the most stylish and cool things, are being listened to a lot. Everyone joins in on the chorus, saying, ''Come on cıstak, cıstak, cıstak, the chicks are wet, wet, wet...''

We must accept that this has become a part of our culture, yes. We have a side that is becoming increasingly materialistic and sees women as nothing more than an apparatus to enter and exit. But there is no giving up.

No matter how many listeners these songs have, we will continue to explain that this is a reflection and reinforcement of patriarchal discrimination and the urge to worship material things, and we will continue to exercise our right to criticize.

Of course, one day listeners will think, 'What am I really listening to and what am I being a tool for in this way?' Music is the food of the soul. But sometimes, food poisoning happens too."
