Vital advice for politicians on election stress: 'Don't lose your health'
Election campaigns are continuing intensely in Turkey. Everyone, whether interested in politics or not, has to cope with the stress and anxiety that can arise during this period. This process is seen as a stressful time that can cause serious health problems for anyone involved in politics. So, what do we need to do to avoid being affected by the election? Here is the answer...
Election campaigns are continuing intensely. In Turkey, where there is high voter turnout, every citizen is closely interested in the election process and its results, and casts their vote. The stress-laden campaign periods and the evenings when results are announced do not only affect politicians or those working on campaigns. Everyone, whether interested in politics or not, opens the door to troubles that can lead to serious health problems during this process.
Warning candidates and campaign workers to make time for themselves, Physical Therapy Specialist Dr. Mehmet Portakal said, "The election will pass; know the value of your health before you lose it."
Portakal offered the following advice to politicians:
"The election rush is not a healthy form of physical activity. Therefore, make time for yourself both to relieve stress and for a healthy life.
Walk at a light pace for at least 10-15 minutes.
Rest your body.
Take a shower every day.
Wash your hands, face, and if possible, your feet with cold water a few times during the day.
Do not start the day without doing light warm-up exercises.
Apply oils that reduce stress to your wrists and collar.
Avoid complex foods. Satisfy your hunger with a small number of food items."
Stating that chronic diseases can be triggered by stress, Portakal added:
"Those with chronic illnesses, especially heart and muscle diseases, should be particularly careful. You must manage this process without placing too much mental and physical burden on your body. To relieve the stress load after the election and prevent it from harming your health, I recommend supportive treatments to quickly rejuvenate your body, such as cupping therapy (hacamat) and ozone oxygen therapy," he said.
