Woman who jumped into the sea during social media broadcast rescued in Büyükçekmece
A streamer named Sinan Can Sakızlı, who was out for a night walk with his wife, intervened and saved the life of a woman who jumped into the sea during his live broadcast. The moments were recorded on the live stream.
In an incident that occurred around 01:00 last night at the Albatros Beach in Büyükçekmece, social media influencer Sinan Can Sakızlı and his wife noticed a person in the sea during their routine walk. Sakızlı, who was broadcasting live at the time, immediately took action with his wife and asked for help from those nearby.
Emergency medical teams were notified shortly after. While it was observed that the woman in the sea was unconscious, she was pulled from the water by Sakızlı and nearby citizens. The first intervention was performed at the scene by 112 Emergency Health teams, and the woman was subsequently transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Sinan Can Sakızlı described the events with the following words: “My wife and I had gone out and were on a live broadcast. Suddenly, my wife said there was a person in the sea. At first, I couldn't believe it. Then, I can say I performed my civic duty. Actually, it was something anyone could have done. With the influence of the live broadcast, I wanted to gather those around. I said, ‘Come, let’s save the woman.’ After about 15-20 minutes of effort, we rescued the woman. The woman was unconscious. It is not fully clear in the video, but when I reached out my hand, her eyes were rolling back. That is why we kept shouting to get her to come to her senses. There was no one else around. If we hadn't passed by there, no one would have noticed,” he said.
Sakızlı stated that he received various reactions following the incident and expressed the following: “I didn't do it to get a reaction, but for the first time in my life, I received such positive feedback. There were also negative reactions; there were those who said, ‘Why are you letting go of the woman, why are you adjusting the camera?’ My job is to broadcast, but my hands were frozen at that moment. There were other people there. I let go for a short time to warm up. I took off everything I had on, down to my socks. I was thinking of jumping into the sea, but my wife said I shouldn't. Two more people said ‘don't jump.’ Because I am not a good swimmer. I could have drowned too. We think we did the right thing. Otherwise, they would have had to deal with me this time. I asked about the woman's condition afterward; they said she was in shock. I am also curious about her final status,” he said.
The moments in question were reflected both in Sakızlı’s live broadcast and on security cameras along the beach. In the camera recordings, it can be seen that the woman jumped into the sea and the streamer couple noticed the incident and intervened quickly.
