3 people had died in the collapse... A worker who survived the mining accident recounted those moments
Three workers lost their lives in a collapse at a stone quarry in the Oltu district of Erzurum. Yasin Akyüz, who survived the incident, described those moments.
A collapse at a quarry extracting Oltu stone in the Tutlu neighborhood of Erzurum's Oltu district resulted in the deaths of 3 workers. Yasin Akyüz, who was in the mine at the time of the incident, shared what he experienced.
Akyüz said, "We went to the stone quarry at 4 in the morning. We went for breakfast. They went inside. The weather was hot. I went inside too because it was cool. They were working. I saw a dangerous spot and warned them. Then he said it would hit here directly. At that moment, I went outside. I emptied the soil. I put it back in front of the quarry. I looked and they hadn't pulled the rope. The generator was running idle. At that moment, I went into the quarry and shouted, they didn't respond. I saw that the layers had collapsed. I felt helpless, I couldn't get them out, I couldn't save them. I went up and shouted to the neighbors, they came. They gathered. They went inside and pulled them out from under the rocks by breaking them," he said.
Following the accident, teams arriving at the scene reached the lifeless bodies of the workers trapped under the collapse and recovered them. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
