5.2 magnitude earthquake in Syria felt in Hatay
A 5.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Syria was felt in Hatay, Turkey's southernmost province.
According to information shared by AFAD, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Hama region of Syria at approximately 23:56.
The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 19 kilometers, was felt in Hatay and Gaziantep, located in the southernmost part of Turkey.
Citizens who felt the earthquake went out into the streets.
STATEMENT FROM THE HATAY GOVERNOR'S OFFICE REGARDING THE EARTHQUAKE
According to information shared by AFAD, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Hama region of Syria at approximately 23:56.
The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 19 kilometers, was felt in Hatay and Gaziantep, located in the southernmost part of Turkey. Citizens who felt the earthquake went out into the streets.
In a statement regarding the earthquake, the Hatay Governor's Office said, “In accordance with information received from the AFAD Presidency Earthquake Department on Monday, 12.08.2024, at 23:56, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake centered in Hama (Syria) has occurred. According to initial assessments, there are no negative reports, and no notifications have been received by the 112 Emergency Call Center.
An AFAD Search and Rescue team has been dispatched to the Yayladağı district center, which was affected by the earthquake, for precautionary and reconnaissance purposes. Developments are being monitored,” the statement read.

AFTERSHOCK OCCURRED
Following the strong 5.2 magnitude earthquake, an aftershock with a magnitude of 3.8 occurred in the same region.
