A wave of price hikes is at the door in Istanbul: Is another transport fare increase coming?

The first session of the October Meetings of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Council was held at the presidential building in Saraçhane, chaired by IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan. During the session, parliamentary questions were submitted, speeches were made outside the agenda, and many items were discussed and sent to commissions.

PRICE HIKE PROPOSALS SENT TO COMMISSIONS

During the meeting, items proposing price increases for many service categories across Istanbul were brought to the agenda.

The proposals sent to the commissions included regulations regarding public transport vehicles, ISPARK parking lots, municipal nurseries, sports facilities, and cultural events.

Price hike proposals were prepared for transport categories including buses, metro, metrobus, minibuses, ferries, taxis, and school buses.

In addition, price updates were also proposed for cultural events such as theater, concert, and cinema tickets.

COMMISSION PROCESS BEGUN FOR DECISION

The "Tariff Commission," the "Traffic and Transport Commission," and the "Plan and Budget Commission" were tasked with evaluating the proposals containing the price hikes.

These commissions are expected to complete their deliberations and present their decisions to the Council in the coming days.

FINAL DECISION WILL BE CLEAR AFTER COUNCIL APPROVAL

Once the rates of the price hikes to be discussed in the commissions are finalized, the decisions will be voted on in the IMM Council to gain finality.

The new tariffs in many areas, primarily transport, are planned to come into effect following the Council's approval.
