AFAD: Orange alert issued for our provinces of Rize, Giresun, Trabzon, and Artvin

In a statement made from AFAD's social media account, it was said, "According to the latest assessments from the General Directorate of Meteorology, an orange alert has been issued for our provinces of Rize, Giresun, Trabzon, and Artvin until noon today (September 21, 2025) due to thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

As a result of the extreme rainfall that has been continuing in the region for two days, floods and overflows have occurred, and response efforts are ongoing regarding the reports received within the scope of the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP).

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, our AFAD President Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, and AFAD Department Heads have arrived in our Rize province to coordinate the ongoing response efforts on-site. Our Ministers and our AFAD President, together with Rize Governor İhsan Selim Baydaş, Member of Parliament Harun Mertoğlu, Mayor Rahmi Metin, and representatives of relevant institutions, conducted inspections in the areas affected by the flood and received information about the work," the statement included.

Stating that 2,614 personnel and 984 vehicles are responding to the rainfall occurring in the provinces under an orange alert, the statement said, "The rainfall occurring in our provinces under an orange alert is being responded to by a total of 2,614 personnel and 984 vehicles from AFAD, 112 Emergency Health, Highways, DSI, Fire Department, Gendarmerie, Police, Special Provincial Administration, Municipality, and NGO teams.

Efforts by the relevant teams to open roads closed due to extreme rainfall and to resolve power outages are continuing. Necessary work has been carried out regarding reports received from our Rize, Giresun, Trabzon, and Artvin provinces, which are under an orange rainfall alert, concerning floods, inundations, landslides, and people being stranded; road clearing efforts are ongoing. We extend our best wishes to all our citizens affected by the adverse weather events," it was stated.

Emphasizing that citizens should be careful against landslides, floods, inundations, lightning, and transportation disruptions, the statement included the following: "The ongoing showers and thunderstorms in the Eastern Black Sea region are expected to be strong in the provinces of Giresun and Trabzon, and very strong and locally severe (51-100 kg/m2) in the eastern districts of Giresun, the western and eastern districts of Trabzon, and the north of Rize and Artvin. We importantly remind our citizens to be careful and take precautions against negative conditions such as landslides, floods, inundations, lightning, and transportation disruptions, especially considering soil saturation, and to heed the warnings of the competent authorities."
