Explosion in Tokat leaves 7 injured, including 5 gendarmes

According to the information obtained, the explosion occurred at a vineyard house located in Hürmüzlü village in the Karayaka town of Erbaa district.

The owner of the vineyard house, A.K., became suspicious of a chest found in his garden and notified the gendarmerie teams conducting patrol activities.

As the teams arrived at the scene and opened the chest, a handmade explosive device booby-trapped inside detonated. Following the explosion, the vineyard house owner A.K. and his son S.K., as well as gendarmerie personnel M.A., M.E., B.M., A.S., and S.E. were seriously injured.

Upon notification, numerous ambulances were dispatched to the scene. The injured were taken to Erbaa State Hospital after receiving initial intervention at the scene. Following initial treatment there, 3 gendarmerie officers in serious condition were transferred to Tokat.

Initial investigations at the scene revealed that the explosion was caused by a handmade explosive device booby-trapped inside the chest. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR OF TOKAT

Tokat Governor Numan Hatiboğlu announced that 2 people have been apprehended in connection with the handmade explosive that caused the injury of 7 people, including 5 gendarmerie officers.

Governor Hatiboğlu made a statement to the press after inspecting the house where the explosion occurred. Announcing that 2 people related to the incident were caught in Samsun, Hatiboğlu said, "An explosion occurred in our Karayaka town of Erbaa district at around 21.20 this evening.

A citizen from the local community called the gendarmerie and reported that there was a suspicious package in their garden that did not belong to them.

Our patrol came to check it. The explosion occurred during the inspection. As a result of the explosion, 5 of our expert gendarmerie personnel were injured.

Currently, 3 of our gendarmes are being treated at our university hospital, 2 civilian injured are at Tokat State Hospital, and 2 injured gendarmerie personnel are being treated at Erbaa State Hospital.

2 people thought to be involved in the incident were caught in Samsun. A more detailed statement will be made as a result of the necessary investigations. The necessary work is being carried out," he said.

CHP Chairman Özel included the following statements in his post on his X account:

"I wish a speedy recovery to our 7 citizens, 5 of whom are gendarmes, who were injured in the explosion that occurred at a house where gendarmerie teams went upon a report in Erbaa, Tokat. We are closely following the ongoing treatment and condition of the injured in Tokat."
