‘Fake imam’ inspection at the cemetery

As crowds gathered at the Asri Cemetery in the central Yüreğir district on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, those wishing to recite prayers were subjected to a test to prevent fake imams from earning money by reciting prayers at gravesides.

‘FAKE IMAM’ INSPECTION

The cemetery mosque imam and security personnel conducted inspections against fake imams. During the checks, individuals walking around with a Quran in their hands at gravesides and along the paths were asked to recite a prayer and then the Surah Yasin. Those who recited the prayer and the Surah Yasin incorrectly were removed from the cemetery.

“I EARN HOWEVER MUCH THEY GIVE ME”

Fadil Zaluk, who was removed from the cemetery for reciting prayers incorrectly, said, “I know how to pray. How did I recite it wrong? I recited it correctly. I earn however much money they give me.”

“I WILL BE MORE CAREFUL”

Coşkun Umay, a citizen who went to visit his family's grave and had a fake imam recite a prayer, stated, “They walk around as imams. There is nothing to be done. I had doubts about the prayer he recited. The inspection is very good; I am pleased. From now on, I will be more careful against fake imams. This is only possible with strict inspections.”

“IT WOULD BE SAFER IF CARDS WERE ISSUED”

At the cemetery, İsmet Kocabey said, “Previously, cards were issued. Now that is gone, and we are in favor of issuing cards. If cards are issued, it will be secure. Neither the citizens nor we will be victimized.”
