Father and son, annoyed by headlights, beat up bus driver

A father and son caused terror in Tekkeköy Neighborhood of Denizli's Pamukkale district.

According to the information obtained, Mustafa Yıldırım, the driver of the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality public bus number 110, arrived at the final stop with his vehicle at 22:55.

With little time left before his departure, Mustafa Yıldırım went to the coffeehouse next to the stop to use the restroom. Hüseyin K., who called out to Mustafa Yıldırım from the coffeehouse, told bus driver Yıldırım to turn off his vehicle's headlights.

As Mustafa Yıldırım realized that his departure time had arrived and headed toward his vehicle, Hüseyin K. attacked him with a stick he was holding. While the two were separated after citizens in the vicinity intervened, Hüseyin K.'s son, Haluk K., arrived at the scene. Haluk K., who arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, attacked Mustafa Yıldırım directly.

While Mustafa Yıldırım, who was injured in the face during the incident, was taken to the hospital, the father and son were detained.

The moments when the father and son attacked the bus driver were recorded by a citizen with a cell phone camera. In the footage, Hüseyin K., who has a stick in his hand, is seen making remarks toward the driver.

In the continuation of the footage, the moments when Hüseyin K. arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, headed toward bus driver Mustafa Yıldırım without taking off his helmet, and attacked him are included. The parties were separated by the intervention of citizens in the vicinity.

Describing the incident he went through, bus driver Mustafa Yıldırım said, "I left my vehicle at the final stop and went to the coffeehouse for my needs. Close to my departure time, a citizen came to me and asked me to turn off my vehicle's headlights. I told him that my departure time had arrived and headed toward the vehicle. At that moment, he attacked me with the stick in his hand. After we were separated, his son came after him. They both attacked me together. This incident is not the last, but we want it to be the last. I will seek my rights legally. This attack on me today could be carried out more severely against another colleague. We want a little more respect."

Stating that they will strive to provide the best service to the people of Denizli but want these incidents to come to an end, bus driver Cemil Karkaş said, "We work selflessly from 04:00 in the morning until 00:00 at night to serve the people of Denizli in the best way possible. We will not cause any disruption in our service because this incident happened. We will continue to serve the people of Denizli in the best way. We call on the people of Denizli to support us in this regard. No matter what incident we experience, we will not turn this into anger. In such incidents, stand by your driver brothers who serve you. We thank our Head of Transportation Department, Mithat Tüzüner, for always supporting us."

Noting that such incidents have happened before and that they want to work in a safe environment, bus driver Arda Daşdemir said, "This incident is not the first. A few weeks ago, a colleague of ours was beaten during a traffic dispute. We want these kinds of incidents to end in Denizli. We want respect from the citizens in Denizli, where we carry people from morning to night. We want to work in a safe environment without thinking, 'Is someone going to attack us?' while we are on the sidelines."
