Fire in Karabük reaches Ankara highway
The forest fire that has been ongoing for 4 days in Karabük has approached the highway. Traffic has been closed in both directions on the Karabük-Ankara highway.
The forest fire, which started in the village of Çavuşlar in the Safranbolu district of Karabük and spread to the villages of the Ovacık district, has reached the Cumayanı Armağan neighborhood in the center of Karabük. As the fire approached the neighborhood, the area was evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Due to the progression of the fire, security forces are not allowing civilian vehicle passage in both directions at the Kardemir Junction on the Karabük-Ankara highway. It was observed that the flames had advanced as far as the highway in the Cumayanı area. In addition to the residents living around the neighborhood, it was seen that the cattle in the region were also being moved to safe areas. Some of the animals were loaded onto a semi-trailer brought to the scene and removed from the area.

An intense struggle is being waged by the Forestry Directorate, AFAD, firefighting teams, and security forces, along with numerous volunteers, to prevent the fire from reaching residential areas.
While the fire changes direction from time to time due to the effect of the wind, teams continue their ground-based extinguishing efforts. The local population has been warned to follow the instructions of the authorities.
