IMM park equipment found in a house in Sakarya: 'I took the rotten materials'

Muzaffer G., who worked as a forest chief at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) for 17 years, retired in May 2024.

After retiring from his final post at the Kemerburgaz City Forest, Muzaffer G. loaded benches, umbrellas, heaters, and other equipment worth hundreds of thousands of liras onto a truck he brought to the city forest, which is intended for the use of Istanbul residents.

HE GAVE ONE OF THE BENCHES HE TOOK TO A MOSQUE

Muzaffer G. transported the products, which were purchased with taxpayers' money and intended for public use, to the storage area of a house he had built on his land in Pamukova, Sakarya.

While Muzaffer G. set up and used an IMM bench in the garden of his house in Pamukova and told those around him that he would "sell them for 25 thousand TL" each, he also donated one bench to a local mosque.

IMM IS UNAWARE

According to a report by Hazar Dost from Sözcü, the IMM is unaware of the actions of Muzaffer G., who also completed the construction of his own house using four rooms full of materials. Although the former IMM employee Muzaffer G. initially denied taking the materials, he responded by saying, "I took the rotten materials" upon learning that there was footage of the incident.

Contrary to Muzaffer G.'s claims, the footage shows that the materials are not rotten, and that Muzaffer G. is even using an IMM bench in his own garden.

UNKNOWN WHAT STEPS IMM WILL TAKE

While IMM officials stated that it is unacceptable for materials belonging to the people of Istanbul to be found on private property in Sakarya, it is not yet known what steps they will take to recover the items.
