Investigation launched into AKP mayor's armed celebration
An investigation has been launched regarding the armed election celebration by the mayor of the Kuleönü town in Isparta.
The Isparta Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has issued a statement regarding footage showing the incumbent Mayor Nuri Erdoğan firing a gun during a celebration at a covered marketplace following the local government elections held on March 31, 2024, in the Kuleönü town of Isparta.
The statement said, "An investigation has been initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the matter."
Four candidates competed for the mayoral seat in the local government elections held on March 31, 2024, in the Kuleönü town of Isparta.
Incumbent Mayor Nuri Erdoğan of the AKP received 52.17 percent of the vote. After the election concluded, the mayor arrived at the Kuleönü covered marketplace and was filmed firing a gun into the air in the middle of the crowd gathered there.
