New detail in the case of two-year-old baby Sıla: She was sexually abused

As the investigation continues into the case of 2-year-old Sıla Y., who fell ill and was taken to intensive care in the Malkara district of Tekirdağ, after it was determined that she had been sexually abused, Tekirdağ Bar Association President Attorney Egemen Gürcün stated in a press release that they are closely following the case.

Bar Association President Gürcün, who traveled to Malkara and held various meetings with Malkara Bar Representative Attorney Ergün Vardar, emphasized that efforts are underway to ensure justice throughout all legal processes of the abuse case.

Within the scope of the investigation, the baby's mother, Bakiye Yeniçeri, and the 13 and 14-year-old children of the neighbors to whom the child had been entrusted, were arrested and sent to prison.

"WE ARE VERY SAD IN THIS REGARD"

Bar Association President Gürcün said, “First of all, the date the incident came to light is September 8, but according to the information we have obtained, the incident took place on the 5th. We learned that when the child's condition worsened, the mother took the child to the hospital, where certain findings emerged. We learned that these findings were transferred to the Public Prosecutor's Office and that the investigation has deepened at this stage. As you know, there are currently 3 detainees in the investigation. One of them is the mother, and two are suspects under the age of 18, classified as children driven to crime.

One of the main reasons for the mother's arrest is the concealment and destruction of evidence of the crime, and the failure to report the crime, which is of great importance. Apart from that, violation of family obligations has emerged as another crime committed alongside these offenses.

This is the reason for the mother's arrest. There are two children driven to crime (SSÇ). The information we obtained from the final reports of the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) in the file and the reports received unfortunately show that a case of sexual abuse has occurred against our 2-year-old child.

We are very sad about this grave incident that has taken place. However, it must be stated that we have just learned that our people in Malkara are aware that our Public Prosecutor's Office is handling this matter with devotion and meticulousness, and is conducting a very detailed investigation to reveal the material truth.

In this respect, we congratulate our Public Prosecutor's Office. They have a very valuable effort underway regarding the clarification of the incident,” he said.

Bar Association President Gürcün said, “We mentioned the mother's concealment of evidence of the crime in her statement taken after our child fell ill on September 8. We cannot share some very important detailed information with you yet due to the confidentiality of the investigation. However, despite the fact that evidence pointing to the occurrence of sexual abuse came into the mother's hands, she did not report it to the relevant authorities, thereby concealing the emergence of this crime from the 5th to the 8th. For this reason, the mother was arrested.

The issue that emerged in the report from the ATK and in the statements is that there is unfortunately a deepening suspicion regarding the sexual abuse case for these two children driven to crime as well. Statements have been taken in this regard. To reiterate, there are 3 detainees in the investigation currently being conducted by the Public Prosecutor's Office. The mother has very detailed statements. Due to the final forensic medicine report, it has unfortunately been revealed at this stage that the incident in question is a case of sexual abuse. We are very sad.

As the Tekirdağ Bar Association, we are determinedly carrying out our work regarding the protection of children, women, and nature. Today, we are here before you with the responsibility of defending our child's rights and providing accurate information to the public. In this respect, the Tekirdağ Bar Association will work with determination to build a society where our children can live safely.

As the Tekirdağ Bar Association, we will follow this case to the end during the trial phase that will take place after the investigation phase. To give a brief update on our child's health, she is still being kept sedated in intensive care. Due to the brain hemorrhage she suffered, her condition is serious.

However, the latest information we received from her doctors and the prosecutor is that she remains stable. All our prayers are for our child to regain her health. We would like to underline once again that the people of Malkara and the Tekirdağ public should handle this process with restraint and that the necessary sensitivity is being meticulously exercised by the judicial authorities. Furthermore, the latest information we have obtained is that the number of suspects is currently 5, that there is one final statement remaining, and that the stepfather's statement will begin to be taken this evening. In this case, there are a total of 5 suspects in our investigation. In this situation, the duty of the Public Prosecutor's Office here will end after the last suspect's statement is taken,” he said.
